Academic entry qualification

First-Year Admission

That means admission to Columbia is not based on a simple formula of grades and test scores. Instead, we consider a variety of factors: the student’s academic record, extracurricular interests, intellectual achievements and personal background. 

Transfer application

We typically admit fewer than 10 percent of the applicants for transfer admission each year. Potential transfers are expected to have a minimum GPA of 3.5 overall; Columbia Engineering candidates are strongly encouraged to have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in their mathematics and science courses. 

Standardized Tests

650 or higher on either the Critical Reasoning or Writing sections of the SAT before March 2016 ；700 or higher on the Evidence Based Reading and Writing section of the redesigned SAT (beginning in March 2016)  ；29 or higher on the English or Reading sections of the ACT ；TOEFL A minimum score of 600 (paper-based test) or 100 (Internet-based test) is necessary for admission to Columbia. ；IELTS7.0
